Magens Bay on the North Side of St. Thomas is gorgeous with its still waters, breathtaking scenery, and relaxed vibe. Relaxed that is unless cruise ships are in port. This is a favorite excursion for cruising tourists as it is a chance to experience what many believe to be one of the top ten beaches in the world.
Driving to Magens Bay from the port of Charlotte Amalie can be a hair raising experience in a rental car or in one of the safari bus jitneys.Even after living on the island of St. Thomas for a few months, I found driving myself there to be fraught with wrong turns on the top of the island. But, once there, the mile-long beach, the acres of coconut trees and mangroves and the convenient beach bar with friendly sand side cocktail waitress service make relazing in the 80 degree water or in the 80 degree sunshine, pure relaxation.
The beach is run by the Magens Bay Authority and the nominal entry fee is worth it.
