Red Sea marks a pivotal transition in the Paintings of Stu Coleman from his “Vistas” period to his “Horizons” period as it is his first abstract painting to feature a defined, masked horizon. The clouds and sky are variegated with a shifting sandy shoreline.
The sea isn’t usually red unless there is a bloom of the algae, Trichodesmium erythraeum. Some scholars speculate that Red refers to South as the Black sea refers to North as some asiatic languages use colors to define cardinal directions.
