I have spent the better part of the last two decades walking along Venice Beach, especially the Southern end between the pier and the MDR Jetty. Venice Beach is a cacophony of sounds, sights and smells. The milieu of characters on the boardwalk is both fixed and transient. But the ocean, millions of years old is both the same and ever changing. Tides rise and fall and the Humboldt current carries nutrients, fish and whales south. The Pacific is cold vast and deep but, it’s California beaches are warm, scenic and deep.

This is one of the first five Beach Paintings by Stu Coleman that began his fascination with capturing the essence of sitting on the sand and looking out at the ocean.
